Phase I – clinical trials investigating safety of an investigational medicine in a small number of human subjects. Phase 2 – clinical trials investigating dosing, safety and efficacy of an investigational medicine in a small number of patients who have the disease or condition under study. Phase 3 – clinical trials investigating the safety and efficacy of an investigational medicine in a larger number of patients who have the disease or condition under study. For the purposes of this chart, this includes the regulatory approval process prior to receiving marketing approval in the first major market.
GMRx2
GMRx2 is a single-pill, multi-mechanism, triple combination containing the commonly used hypertension medicines, telmisartan, amlodipine and indapamide, developed in unique low dosage strengths.
Through this innovative combination we aim to tackle the growing issue of hypertension, one of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease and morbidity, while improving accessibility in key regions across the globe.
Results from two international Phase 3 trials showed that the combination pill significantly improved blood pressure and control rates when compared against placebo and against dual combinations of its component drugs. In both trials, tolerability was good, with no increase in withdrawal from treatment due to adverse events.
GMRx2 is also being studied in an investigator-initiated study by The George Institute for Global Health. TRIDENT (Triple therapy prevention of Recurrent Intracerebral Disease EveNts Trial) is investigating the effectiveness of GMRx2 in stable patients with prior intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) – a stroke caused by ruptured blood vessels in the brain – to prevent recurrent serious cardiovascular events such as stroke.
